Hours:

Monday to Friday 9 to 12 and 1 to 5

Patients Seen:

This facility evaluates and treats patients requiring dentoalveolar surgery. This includes patients with:

  • Impacted wisdom teeth
  • Other impacted or unerupted teeth
  • Routine dental extractions
  • Exposure and bonding of unerupted teeth for orthodontic purposes
  • Provision of sedation and general anesthesia
  • Facial cosmetic surgery

Patients can be referred or self-referred.

Insurance:

This facility accepts most dental insurance contracts. Copayments and deductibles are payable at the time of treatment. Visa and Master Card are accepted.

  • Use of Lasers in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Research Interests:

  • Study of hyaluronic acid, hyaluronidase and hyaluronidase inhibitors in saliva
  • The effects of liquid nitrogen cryotherapy on osseous structures
  • Anatomical studies of the lingual nerve, buccal branch of the facial nerve and nasolabial folds
  • Biological behavior of salivary gland tumors

Brief Biography:

Tony Pogrel received his dental degree from Liverpool University in England and his medical degree from Aberdeen University in Scotland. He received his general surgery training in Great Britain and his oral and maxillofacial surgery training in Great Britain, Holland and Miami, Florida. He joined the full-time faculty of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco in 1983. He is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a joint appointment in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Surgery. He holds California dental and medical licenses, is a fellow of both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the American College of Surgeons, and is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Brief Biography:

Brian Bast received his dental degree from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston and his medical degree from University of California, San Francisco. He recieved his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at UCSF, Oral and Maxillofacial Sugery. Dr. Bast joined the Maxillofacial Surgery Department at UCSF in 2002.

Paediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Surgical Expertise:

Orthognathic surgery and maxillofacial reconstruction for management of children and adults with cleft and craniofacial anomalies, dentofacial deformities, jaw tumors, facial fractures and obstructive sleep apnoea

Research Interests:

Global health, telemedicine, paediatric jaw tumors and skeletal reconstruction of maxillofacial deformities

Brief Biography:

Associate Clinical Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She is a full time faculty member in the School of Dentistry at the University of California, San Francisco and an Attending Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at the UCSF Children’s Hospital, Moffitt Medical Center and San Francisco General Hospital. She directs the student clerkship and externship program for UCSF oral and maxillofacial surgery.

    Brief Biography:

    Mehran Hossaini-Zadeh received his dental degree from Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland, OR. St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury, CT, and St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT, is where he recieve his GPR training. He recieved his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at the Brooklyn Hospital Center. Dr. Hossaini holds a dental licencse both in California and Pennsylvania. Dr. Hossaini is also board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

    Janice Lee received her dental degree from University of California, Los Angeles and her medical degree from Harvard School of Medicine, Boston. Janice got her OMFS training at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. Janice Lee also did a 2 yr NIH Craniofacial Fellowship in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Lee joined the full-time faculty of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UCSF in 2002.
