General Practice Residency

General Information

The University of California , San Francisco conducts a one- year advance education program in Hospital Dentistry designed to meet the requirements of the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association. The requirements for entrance into the program include graduation from an ADA accredited dental school.

The training year begins on July 1st. Applications should be sent to Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS) and are due by September 15th of the preceding calendar year. Notification of the selected trainees for the program is made through the General Practice Residency/ Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery National Matching Program. Stipends are comparable to those of other house staff officers with the institution. There are a maximum of four funded positions available for each year. It is recommended that each resident obtain a license to practice dentistry in the State of California during the year of training. The Campus

The University of California , San Francisco campus is in the heart of the beautiful, cosmopolitan city of San Francisco . From its vantage point on the slopes of Mt. Sutro , it commands a dramatic vista over looking the Pacific Ocean to the west, Golden Gate Park and to the Golden Gate Bridge to the north, and San Francisco Bay and the Oakland/Berkeley Hills to the east. It is one of nine University of California campuses and the only one devoted exclusively to the health sciences, with schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy as well as a Graduate Division in Health related sciences.

The students and faculty of UCSF share the facilities of two on-campus acute care hospitals, one psychiatric institute, a dental clinic building, a complex of associate teaching and research structures, a Student Union, and an extensive library of over 460,000 volumes, professional dissertations, periodicals, and full internet database access. UCSF provides the largest ambulatory care program in California, with affiliation programs at San Francisco General Hospital Medical Center, MT Zion Medical Center, and two new inner-city dental community clinics, in addition to some hundred other affliction around the state.

The school of Dentistry’ four story building, completed and inaugurated in the schools centenary of 1981, houses modern clinics, laboratories, and offices. Private practices and specialty clinics, the school’s administrative office, and research laboratories are located recently renovated areas on campus.

The General Practice Residency, located on the University of California San Francisco Campus , is a one-year program offering training in all aspects of Hospital Dentistry with an emphasis on comprehensive general dental care in a come and go surgery center environment.
