Brian Bast received his dental degree from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in Boston and his medical degree from University of California, San Francisco. He recieved his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at UCSF, Oral and Maxillofacial Sugery. Dr. Bast joined the Maxillofacial Surgery Department at UCSF in 2002.

Brief Biography:
Associate Clinical Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. She is a full time faculty member in the School of Dentistry at the University of California, San Francisco and an Attending Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at the UCSF Children’s Hospital, Moffitt Medical Center and San Francisco General Hospital. She directs the student clerkship and externship program for UCSF oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Mehran Hossaini-Zadeh received his dental degree from Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland, OR. St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury, CT, and St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT, is where he recieve his GPR training. He recieved his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at the Brooklyn Hospital Center. Dr. Hossaini holds a dental licencse both in California and Pennsylvania. Dr. Hossaini is also board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Brief Biography:
Tony Pogrel received his dental degree from Liverpool University in England and his medical degree from Aberdeen University in Scotland. He received his general surgery training in Great Britain and his oral and maxillofacial surgery training in Great Britain, Holland and Miami, Florida. He joined the full-time faculty of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco in 1983. He is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a joint appointment in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Surgery. He holds California dental and medical licenses, is a fellow of both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the American College of Surgeons, and is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Brief Biography:
Patricia A. Rudd, P.T., Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, is the supervisor of Physical Therapy clinical and educational services for the Center for Orofacial Pain at the University of California, San Francisco. Ms. Rudd has authored several articles on Temporomandibular Disorders and Self-Care, has been a reviewer for the Journal of Orofacial Pain, and has lectured nationally and internationally on Dental Ergonomics, Orofacial Pain, and the association between Orofacial Pain and Cervical Disorders. She formerly maintained a private physical therapy practice for 12 years in downtown San Francisco where she primarily treated patients with temporomandibular, cervical and upper extremity disorders. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in physical therapy.

Brief Biography:
At the University of California, San Francisco, Schmidt earned a doctor of dental surgery degree, a medical degree and a Ph.D. in oral biology. During his studies, Schmidt was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon (the national dental honor society), as well as, Alpha Omega Alpha (the national medical honor society). He completed his residency training in general surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery at UCSF Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in head and neck cancer at Legacy Emanuel Hospital and Health Center in Portland, Oregon. He is currently an Associate Professor, the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program Director and the Oral and Maxillofacial Oncology Fellowship Director. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also the principal investigator of several research studies on oral cancer.

Brief Biography:
At Fairleigh Dickinson University, Dr. Silva earned her doctoral degree in dentistry. She then went on to complete a dental residency in General Practice at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in NY. Following this, Dr. Silva completed her residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the Mt Sinai Medical Center, NY. After 4 years of private practice in NYC, she joined the VA Medical Center in San Francisco and became associated with the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. She is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF and the Chief, Dental Service at the VA Medical Center. She also is the Chief of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery section at the VA and Site Residency Training Director. She has participated in several multi-center VA research studies.

Brief Biography:
Dr. Grimaldi received his bachelorÂ’s degree in Biology from San Jose State University in 1976, graduating Tau Delta Phi scholastic honor society and deanÂ’s list commendations from the School of Science. He received his D.D.S. degree from the University of California, San Francisco, graduating with a class rank of 1st in class and receiving a regents scholarship Omicron Kappa Epsilon dental honor society award as well as the Alpha Omega award for scholastic excellence. He completed residency training in Hospital Dentistry at the University of California, San Francisco in 1982 with a specific focus on dentistry for medically compromised developmentally disabled or phobic patients. Dr. Grimaldi joined the University of California, San Francisco faculty in 1983 as the Director of the General Practice Residency in Hospital Dentistry serving in that capacity until 1987. Since 1987, he has served as the director of Hospital Dentistry, offering dental treatment in an operating room setting.
Dr. Grimaldi is a member of the Omicron Kappa Epsilon National Honorary Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Association of Hospital Dentists, the California Society of Medicine and Surgery and the Academy of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities. Dr. Grimaldi is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, holds state of California conscious sedation permit #2 and is qualified medical evaluator #9577 for the state of California. He has been recently inducted into the American College of Dentists.

Brief Biography:
Dr. Mantz graduated from Loma Linda University, School of Dentistry in 1969. He continued on into specialty residency at Orange County Medical Center, completing the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program in June, 1973. Additionally, he completed the requirements for the Master of Science degree granted by Loma Linda University that same year. Dr. Mantz began private practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Modesto, California and in 2005 completed 32 years of practicing the full scope of the specialty. Areas of special emphasis have included outpatient general anesthesia, dental implants and head/neck trauma. He has been on the UCSF faculty as an assistant professor since May, 2003.

Brief Biography:
Dr. Charles McNeill is a Professor Emeritus and the Director of the Center for Orofacial Pain at the University of California, San Francisco . He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. He is a member and former President of both the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry and American Academy of Orofacial Pain and is a past-editor of the Journal of Orofacial Pain. He has authored many articles, abstracts and book chapters, edited four books and lectured extensively on the subjects of TMD, orofacial pain and occlusion. Dr. McNeill formerly maintained a private practice in Walnut Creek, California for 27 years and presently maintains a private orofacial pain practice at UCSF.

Richard A. Smith, DDS received his dental degree from Columbia University School of Dentistry and Oral Surgery in 1967. He was commissioned as a captain in the United States Air Force Dental Corps in 1967 and received a Certificate of Training from New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center in 1972. After his training, he joined the full-time faculty of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery where is currently Clinical Professor and Vice Chairman.
